SCAN

SCAN is a personal project in which I experimented with using my scanner as a means of taking a portrait photograph, rather than a digital camera for instance. In the process of this, I manipulated the imagery by moving myself, the scanner and finding ways to be in the way of the sensor.

The result, through a pass or two of Photoshop texturing, colour tilting and pixel distressing, is striking. These images mark some of my earlier experimentation with visuals in 2013, and show a younger self eager to make a mark.

And would you believe it? I tore, rippled and stretched the ‘SCAN’ hand drawn lettering through that sensor to affect for that exciting and stimulating animated effect. Blue whiteboard marker on A4 office paper, inverted, overlaid.

Nothing has changed. I still pull together visuals with whichever material is nearby.
