RASA World AIDS Day artwork
I worked with Relationships Australia (SA) to create artwork for their World AIDS Day project. The intention is to spread a message of awareness of HIV AIDS, and prevention.
Early on, I decided I would create the piece in an especially sensitive and respectful way.
The piece features two simplified figures to avoid suggesting a sway to any gender affected. The intimate closeness, shows the relationship, not the stigma. It aims to remind the viewer that HIV prevention starts with the relationship.
Style-wise I aimed for a soft, warm, analogue feel, a reflection of a relationship, without being explicit. I was reminded of my first awareness of HIV AIDS, as a child I remember the illustrations, colours and imagery used in the early 90s, and worked towards an image in that spirit.
