Strong meaningful design should not draw its strength purely from elements that are trends.
Why? Remove the trend, the technique, and the design falls apart.
The backbone of design, right from the beginning shouldn't be teetering on being self-congratulatory, just purveying to the few that are hyped by it, or actually being progressive and forward-thinking.
